“(2016 album) Blast Off is altogether a triumph, a relentlessly modern record that channels deep understanding of the past and most importantly a core of rump-shaking funk that, completely aside from how clever or strange it is, makes it an absolute delight to keep coming back to.” The Arts Desk ★★★★★
“Paper Tiger inhabit a niche that is all their own… Organic, energetic, non-conformist and filled with unexpected sonics.” Bonafide Magazine
“How good is this? An album like this one is rare these days. Loving it.” Renegades Of Jazz
“…it is rare for a band to make tracks with swing and groove with enough canvas to let rappers glide. It reminds me of if Thievery Corporation came out fresh today, fusing several genres in fresh ways, without the baggage that trip-hop comes with.” Passion Of The Weiss
“Isn’t it lovely? Wonderful, lovely stuff.” Lauren Laverne (BBC Radio 6 Music)

Paper Tiger began in a bedroom in suburban Wolverhampton: music-obsessed teenagers comparing notes on African funk compilations, Japanese animation, soundsystem culture, apocalyptic space-rap and Miles Davis’ little-known collaboration with Sting.
Now based in Leeds, between them they have heaps of musical experience and knowledge from which to draw – a seamless blend of electronic wizardry and good old-fashioned jazz chops; squiggly space-synths and fidgety funk; Beats, Rhymes And Life. Their live shows have garnered praise from people across the high-low art spectrum (from Mary-Anne Hobbs to the Daily Star) and seen them share stages with Amon Tobin, Quantic, The Bug, Jaga Jazzist, Nightmares On Wax, Bonobo, Alice Russell, Rustie, Dam Funk, Daedelus and Gaslamp Killer to name a few.
Their productions have seen collaborations with vocalists Homeboy Sandman (Stones Throw), Infinite Livez (Big Dada), Josh Idehen (Benin City, LV) and Foreign Beggars. Their releases have had airplay on Radio 1, 6 Music, 1xtra, Rinse FM, XFM and more, plus support from Mixmag, The Wire, Q, FACT, Jamie xx, Coldcut, Slugabed, Bugz In The Attic, Mr Scruff, Alex Nut, LV and many more.
Paper Tiger’s debut album, Laptop Suntan, was released in 2013 via the Wah Wah 45s label. An accompanying remix album, Sultan Ant Pop, followed at the end of 2014, featuring contributions from Werkha (Tru Thoughts), LV (Keysound, Hyperdub), Murder He Wrote (Skint, Soundcrash), Memotone (Black Acre, Project Mooncircle) and more.
Their second album, Blast Off, was released in May 2016. It features Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra, Eglo), Pyramid Vritra (Odd Future, Stones Throw), Chester Watson, Sarah Williams White (First Word) and was mastered by LA beat-scene lynchpin Daddy Kev, Grammy-nominated for his work with Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar.
The third album, Rogue Planet, will be released in early 2019. Its first single ‘The Cycle (feat. Steve Spacek)’ is out now.
